In 2025, Georgia will host the European Winter Youth Olympic Festival

According to the decision of the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), Georgia has been officially awarded the status of the host of the 2025 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival.

Accordingly, the 17th European Winter Youth Olympic Festival will be held in 2025 in Bakuriani, where young athletes from European countries will take part in 8 types of winter sports.

On November 28, a special briefing was held at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, where Deputy Minister Shalva Gogoladze, Irakli Chirakadze, Director of the Mountain Resorts Development Company, and Mamuka Khabareli, Vice President of the Olympic Committee, discussed important issues related to the festival.

Shalva Gogoladze (Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia): “Hosting the Winter Olympics is a great honor and recognition for our country, but at the same time it is a great challenge in several areas. The country should welcome this major sporting event with dignity, for which the Ministry will work continuously with the National Olympic Committee and the Mountain Resorts Development Company. First of all, we must arrange the infrastructure of the relevant standards in Bakuriani, and support our young Olympians as much as possible in order to fully prepare and show the maximum opportunities for this sporting event. Georgia already has good experience in hosting high-level sporting events, including the 2015 Summer European Youth Olympic Festival, which has been highly praised by the international sports community and the European Olympic Committee. In 2025, our country will once again be marked on the world sports map. I congratulate Georgia on this great recognition. "

Mamuka Khabareli (Vice President of the National Olympic Committee): “The main motivation and goal for both the National Olympic Committee and our government is not only to hold the festival at the highest level, but also to develop winter sports in our country and as many young people as possible. Turn in this direction. This project will also give us the opportunity to develop both sports tourism and tourism in general in our country. During the Olympic Festival, the attention of the whole of Europe will be focused on Georgia, which is the most important factor.

Bakuriani mountain-skiing tracks fully meet international standards. Rehabilitation of the famous trampoline in Bakuriani is planned, which will become a business card of Georgia, and a project for the construction of a biathlon track has been developed. "Two ice rinks are needed for the Olympic Festival, and therefore it has been decided that one rink will be built in Bakuriani and the other in Tbilisi."
